Privacy Policy

Keats is published by AKP Ventures Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom, which is the data controller for this policy. This page explains what stays on your Mac, what leaves it, and what we hold.

The short version

• Your documents stay on your Mac. We never receive them.
• Text you ask AI to work on goes to an AI provider, not to us.
• You can use the whole editor without an account.
• We keep no analytics and no tracking of any kind.

What stays on your Mac

• Your Markdown files, in the folders where you put them.
• Your settings, in a local configuration file.
• Your own AI provider key, held in the macOS Keychain.
• Diagnostic logs, in your Library folder. They stay on the device.

Keats reads other files in a folder only after you grant access to that folder, and only to give the AI nearby context. You can turn folder context off in settings.

What goes to an AI provider

To suggest a continuation or to improve a passage, Keats sends the relevant part of your document to the AI provider you have chosen. This may include surrounding text and, when folder context is on, short extracts from related Markdown files in the same folder.

The app calls the provider directly. Your text does not pass through our servers. What the provider then does is covered by its own privacy policy, so please read it. The default provider is OpenRouter, which routes each request to the model you select.

If you would rather send nothing at all, turn the AI features off and use Keats as a plain editor.

What we hold, and only if you buy a subscription

A Keats AI subscription needs an account. For account holders we store:

• your email address, used to sign in and to contact you;
• your plan, its status, and the date the period ends;
• a ledger of credit granted and credit used, in dollars;
• identifiers for your Stripe customer and subscription;
• the scoped AI key issued to you, and its spending total.

We do not store your prompts, your documents, or anything you write. The credit ledger records amounts, not content.

Why we are allowed to hold it

For account holders we process this data to perform our contract with you. We keep billing records for as long as UK tax law requires, which is six years. Other account data is deleted within 30 days of your asking.

Updates

The app checks for new versions at api.keats.md. That request carries the current version and the standard network details of any web request, such as an IP address. We do not use it to build a profile. You can turn automatic updates off in settings.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you may ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or erase it, object to processing, or ask us to restrict it. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within one month. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Keats is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly hold their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will email account holders about anything significant.
